World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge is among 10 nominees for the 2022 Male World Athlete of the Year Award.

The long distance runner is favourite to win the award after another outstanding season where he beat his own world record by 30 seconds when he ran 2:01:09 to win Berlin Marathon last month.

The Tokyo marathon champion will face off other top athletes including world 5000m champion Jakob Ingebrigsten (Norway),  world 200m champion Noah Lyles (USA),  world pole vault champion Mondo Duplantis (Sweden) and world 3000m champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco.

The double Olympic champion will be eyeing a third crown having triumphed in 2018 and 2019 and looks to become only the third athlete in history to win it three times.

The others to have won it three or more times include Morocco’s Hicham El Gourouj (3) and Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt (6).

Currently Kipchoge has tied with Kenenisa Bekele, Carl Lewis and Michael Johnson who have each won it twice.

A three-way voting process will determine the finalists while fans can vote online via the World Athletics social media platforms. Individual graphics for each nominee will be posted on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube this week; a ‘like’ on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube or a retweet on Twitter will count as one vote.

A final shortlist of five will be revealed before the winner is announced in December.
