Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has described the NYOTA initiative as a central pillar of youth economic empowerment under President William Ruto.
The programme targets young Kenyans at the grassroots, providing startup capital, business training, mentorship, and structured savings.
Kindiki said NYOTA is part of a broader suite of youth-focused programmes, including digital jobs, labour export schemes, and affordable housing.
He emphasized the initiative reflects a shift toward people-centred economic interventions, placing resources directly in the hands of youth.
Recent disbursements have reached thousands across counties such as Nairobi, Kiambu, and Kajiado, empowering young entrepreneurs.
Officials stressed the programme is inclusive, targeting youth regardless of academic background if they show viable business ideas.
Kindiki warned against politicizing youth programmes, noting that initiatives like NYOTA are meant to empower, not divide.
The government maintains that small grants with mentorship and training can significantly reduce youth unemployment.
Youth were urged to actively participate, aligning with the bottom-up economic model championed by Ruto’s administration.
NYOTA is viewed as a long-term investment in youth economic empowerment, positioning Kenya’s young population for self-reliance.
The programme continues its nationwide rollout, aiming to reach tens of thousands more youth in the coming months.
Officials say the initiative reinforces the government’s commitment to transforming livelihoods and strengthening Kenya’s economy through youth participation.
