Deputy President Professor Kithure Kindiki addressing residents of Rubiri Market, Imenti South, Meru County after launch of major development projects in the region

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki used a public sensitization tour in Rubiri Market, South Imenti Constituency, Meru County, to defend the government’s development record, highlighting roads, electricity rollout, and economic interventions targeting rural households.

He said government projects were prioritised based on urgent needs across different parts of the constituency, especially in areas requiring faster infrastructure catch-up.

He noted that the lower part of South Imenti had greater infrastructure gaps compared to other zones, justifying ongoing interventions.

Kindiki emphasized that development decisions were guided by equity and demand across the constituency.

He said:

"Hapa mnajua ya kwamba hata kama tunaongea mambo ya stima hapa, the lower side of South Imenti ndio inahitaji hata dharura zaidi..."

The Deputy President explained that road construction and electricity expansion were being rolled out simultaneously across different sections of the constituency.

He highlighted ongoing tarmacking projects linking key trading and farming zones.

He said development was designed to connect both upper and lower South Imenti for economic integration.

He stated:

"lami inawekwa kutoka pale Kieni kia Ndege kwenda Moroga, KK kwenda Maraa kwenda Mitunguu."

Kindiki further confirmed that additional road contracts were already completed and new contractors would soon be mobilized.

He emphasized that the government was expanding connectivity between different regions of the constituency.

He said:

"tumetongoza na ile ambayo haijaanza ya kutoka Kionyo mpaka Kanyakine kwenda mpaka Mitunguu mnipatie tu muda kidogo mimi naleta mkandarasi."

The Deputy President framed infrastructure delivery as a key political accountability measure ahead of future elections.

He insisted that development projects would be the main record voters would evaluate.

He stated:

"siku ile wale watu walikuwa watu wakubwa serikalini, mimi sikukuwaona hapa Rubiri. Mliwaona? Kuna kitu walileta huku?"

He further challenged past leaders, arguing that development results mattered more than political rhetoric.

Kindiki criticized leaders who he said only returned during election periods without delivering tangible projects.

He said:

"usikubali kutuambia vile unapenda Wameru saa ile umefukuzwa serikalini. Saa ya kupenda Wameru ni siku ulikuwa na kiti."

He maintained that the current administration would defend its record through completed projects rather than political speeches.

He added:

"they never built a single school. They never gave us an inch of tarmac. They never built one market."

The Deputy President also stressed that government delivery would continue regardless of political criticism.

He insisted that infrastructure rollout would not be derailed by opposition rhetoric.

He stated:

"nimesema kwa sababu naona wanakuja huku wakisema mambo yao waende lakini siku ya kampeni msikubali waongee Kiingereza mingi..."

Kindiki reaffirmed that he would work with President William Ruto to deliver development projects in the region.

He said the administration would remain focused on roads, electricity, and economic transformation.

He declared:

"Next year mimi na William Ruto tunanyosha hao wanaumewapeleka mbio mbio."

He urged residents to support the government based on ongoing projects and visible development outcomes.

Local leaders accompanying him also linked infrastructure to improved livelihoods, especially for farmers.

Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma highlighted gains in dairy farming, citing improved milk prices and subsidies.

He stated:

"Kitu cha kwanza maziwa kwa lita moja ilikuwa inauzwa shilingi 30. Kwa sasa ... maziwa lita moja ni shilingi 50."

He attributed improvements in livestock productivity to government interventions and subsidies for farmers.

He explained that feed and breeding support had helped increase milk production in Meru County.

He said:

"tuko na factory ya chakula ya ng'ombe ... tunajenga factory ya chakula ya ng'ombe kule Mitunguu."

He also noted that subsidized breeding programs had significantly reduced costs for farmers.

He stated:

"mbegu ya ng'ombe kutoka shilingi 1,400 sasa hivi ... shilingi 400."

The Governor further outlined major county and national partnerships in infrastructure and education projects.

He confirmed progress toward establishing Meru University infrastructure projects and expanded market facilities.

He said:

"tunajenga soko ya Kakoromone ... kwa takriban bilioni 1.2."

He also highlighted expansion of health infrastructure at Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital to reduce pressure on national referral facilities.

He added:

"tunajenga hospitali yetu ya Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital kwa takriban bilioni moja..."

The leaders collectively urged residents to remain patient as multiple projects are rolled out across South Imenti and greater Meru County.

The tour ended with assurances that roads, electricity, markets, and agricultural support programmes would continue to be prioritized under the current administration.
