KIHBT Branch To Be Established In Busia
The National Government in collaboration with Busia County Government will now establish a fourth branch of the Kenya Institute of Highway Building technology (KIHBT).
The Institution aims at improving services in the road construction sector in the County.
KIHBT Eng Maurice Nabende after meeting with Busia Governor Paul Otuoma revealed to the press that the County government has already set aside five acres of land at Ruatama in Teso North Sub County through the goodwill of the area MP.
“We are laying strategies of setting up our activities in the region," he said adding the institution will offer training to school leavers as well as capacity build contractors working in the road sector.
According to Nabende, funds are yet to be mobilized through a partnership between the County Government, National Government, and the Constituency Development Fund to inform the initial budget for the project.
"We have acquired title deeds for the five acre parcel in Angurai South, Teso North Constituency and we are following up to establish the basic infrastructure on site like water, electricity and building infrastructure.
Busia Governor Paul Otuoma welcomed the move saying that it will enhance partnerships alongside creating job opportunities for the local residents.
‘This is a good opportunity for us and our people where we will acquire knowledge, knowledge and labour at the same time,’ he said.
Busia County CECM for road and transport Andrew Meso said that the County was already partnering with the Ministry of roads and transport to offer training to contractors and machine operators on new technologies.
“We have agreed that within our planning we will set aside certain roads for training,’ he said, adding that as our people improve their skills, roads are also improved.
KIHBT has three branches in the country, Nairobi, Kisii and Ngong.
