The Kenya Kwanza coalition has removed Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale from his position as Senate Majority Whip following a decision endorsed by top coalition leadership. The move takes immediate effect after formal communication was issued to the Office of the Speaker.

Khalwale’s ouster stems from accusations of defying party directives, particularly during the recent Malava by-election where he publicly backed a candidate who was not the coalition’s choice. Party officials viewed the action as a breach of discipline and grounds for leadership restructuring.

The coalition has appointed Bungoma Senator David Wafula Wakoli as the new Senate Majority Whip. His elevation is expected to strengthen the coalition’s internal cohesion and ensure alignment with party positions in the Senate.

In confirming the leadership change, the Speaker noted that the replacement adhered to procedural requirements under Senate standing orders. The update has since been reflected in the official Senate leadership records.

Khalwale’s removal marks a significant political setback for the senator, who has in recent months been at odds with party hierarchy over various political positions. His future role within the coalition remains uncertain as internal reorganization continues.
