Kenya’s David Munyua Sets Up Dutch Test After Historic Win at World Darts Championship

Kenya’s David Munyua continued his remarkable run at the 2026 PDC World Darts Championship in London after producing one of the tournament’s standout performances.
In his debut at Alexandra Palace, the 30-year-old veterinarian delivered a stunning 3–2 comeback victory over 18th-seeded Belgian Mike De Decker, becoming the first Kenyan to win a match at the prestigious global event.
Munyua trailed 2–0 in sets but staged a resilient recovery, energised by strong support from the crowd and punctuated by a 135 checkout that propelled him into the second round. His performance has generated significant excitement among Kenyan sports fans and elevated Kenya’s profile on the international darts stage.
Speaking to PDC media after his victory, Munyua said the win calmed his nerves and he expects to thrive on Monday against.
‘I have never been in this kind of venue before. The noise.. the pressure.. the wasp…I got it and ran away. I think the second round will be easier for me.’
Next up, Munyua will face Dutch opponent Kevin Doets in the second round, a match that could see him extend his historic run further at this year’s championship.
Victory for Munyua will pull him on the brink of replicating the best performance by an African at the PDC World Championships.
South African Devon Petersen is Africa’s best performer in the history of the competition, reaching the fourth round on two occasions, 2019 and 2021.
