Four Kenyan match officials have been selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to officiate at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations set to take place in Morocco. This marks a significant achievement for Kenya’s refereeing fraternity, reflecting continued progress and recognition at the continental level.
Leading the quartet is experienced centre referee Peter Kamaku Waweru. He will be joined by assistant referees Gilbert Cheruiyot and Stephen Yiembe, while Dickens Mimisa has been appointed as part of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team.
The officials are required to attend a mandatory preparation and training course ahead of the competition, which kicks off on December 21, 2025 and runs through to January 18, 2026. The session will focus on fitness, technical readiness and alignment with VAR procedures.
CAF’s decision to include the Kenyan officials is a vote of confidence in their consistency and professionalism. Their selection also highlights Kenya’s rising status in football officiating across Africa.
Although the national team will not participate in the tournament, Kenya will still have representation at AFCON 2025 through Waweru, Mimisa, Cheruiyot and Yiembe, playing a vital role in maintaining match integrity on the continental stage.
