The Kenya Paravolley National Championship officially kicked off with enthusiasm and energy in Makueni County, as the three-day trials aim to select the national team for the 2026 International Paravolleyball Championships in China.

The event, hosted at Makueni Girls High School in Wote, has brought together top players from across the country. A total of 10 women's teams and 8 men's teams are participating, representing twelve counties: Makueni, Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Siaya, Laikipia, Meru, Nakuru, Vihiga, Migori, Kisumu, Nairobi, and Bungoma.

The tournament started with a dominant display, as the Makueni men's team secured a decisive 3–0 victory over Mombasa in the opening match. This early success has boosted hopes for the host county to reach the finals and contribute a strong contingent of players to the final national squad.

The opening ceremony, which featured colorful performances and speeches, was graced by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Gender, Children, Youth, Sports, and Social Services, Eng. Sebastian Kyoni.

CECM Kyoni officially opened the tournament on Thursday and reaffirmed the county’s strong commitment to promoting sports for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), underscoring it as a core part of Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr.’s inclusivity agenda.

Justus Katumo, the Makueni Disability Network chairperson, welcomed the initiative, emphasizing that the championship serves as a vital platform to empower PWDs and showcase their exceptional sporting talent and professional abilities.
