Kenya Meteorological Department Warns of Continued Heavy Rainfall

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall advisory, warning of intense downpours and associated risks across the country starting Sunday.
According to the advisory, released on Friday, August 15, rainfall in parts of the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the Highlands west of the Rift Valley is expected to intensify to over 20 mm in 24 hours. The rains are projected to gradually spread eastward to the Central and Eastern Highlands.
The weatherman's forecast indicates that the heavy rains will continue until Tuesday, August 19, with a gradual decrease in intensity from Wednesday, August 20. The advisory also warns of potential flash floods, lightning strikes, strong winds, and damage to property.
Residents in flood-prone areas and near rivers have been urged to remain vigilant, as sudden water surges could occur even without local rainfall. The advisory specifically cautioned against walking or driving through moving water and seeking shelter under trees or near grilled windows due to the risk of lightning strikes.
