Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi held discussions with a visiting Canadian delegation led by Randeep Sarai, Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development, during a meeting in Nairobi aimed at strengthening cooperation in the energy sector.
The Canadian team also included Canada’s High Commissioner to Kenya Joshua Tabah, with the talks focusing on expanding bilateral collaboration in energy development and investment between the two countries.
The discussions explored opportunities in renewable energy, energy infrastructure development and knowledge exchange as Kenya continues to accelerate its transition toward clean and sustainable power.
Kenya has positioned itself as a regional leader in green energy, with a significant share of its electricity generated from renewable sources such as geothermal, wind and hydropower.
Government officials say international partnerships remain crucial in supporting the country’s plans to expand energy access and strengthen electricity reliability for households and industries.
Canada has maintained growing development cooperation with Kenya, particularly in climate action, economic development and infrastructure.
The Nairobi meeting also allowed both sides to review the broader Kenya-Canada partnership and identify new areas for cooperation in clean energy technologies and climate-friendly development.
Kenyan authorities say strategic partnerships with global partners will play a key role in financing and implementing large-scale power generation and transmission projects.
The talks come as Kenya continues to seek international investment to support its long-term goal of achieving a fully sustainable and resilient energy sector.
