KCB RFC upbeat ahead of driftwood sevens in Mombasa
KCB RFC 7s Head Coach Andrew Amonde has expressed optimism ahead of the Driftwood Sevens Rugby Tournament slated for this weekend in Mombasa County.
According to he tactician, his team is fired up to take on its opponents despite being placed in a competitive pool alongside Nondescripts, Nakuru RFC and Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad.
The recently crowned Dala Sevens winners will be banking on Edmund Anya and experienced Captain Vincent Onyala to lead the team to glory following a good run at the opening leg in Mamboleo, Kisumu.
“I know teams will be eager to play KCB following our excellent display in Kisumu. All I can say is that the team is ready to take on anyone this weekend. Our confidence level is through the roof and the boys are raring to stamp their authority once again as the undisputed number one rugby side in the sevens circuit. We will blend the young players together with the experienced ones in this leg, we know for sure that this is a marathon and not 100 meters race,” said Andrew Amonde, KCB RFC 7s Coach.
KCB currently leads the National Sevens Circuit standings with 22 points after last weekend’s triumph at the Dala Sevens. Sugar millers Kabras are sitting second with 19 points while Strathmore Leos are third on 17 points.
“We may make two changes in the traveling squad depending on how today’s training session goes and availability of the players. Overall, everyone has been working so hard to be part of the Driftwood team, but we will see what happens before the end of day,” added Amonde.
Amonde also quipped that Shujaa’s Johnstone Olindi will join the team in August and may make the Prinsloo edition after his short-term professional contract comes to an end in Canada.
KCB RFC were crowned the overall winners of the opening leg of the 2023 National Sevens Circuit after dominating 17-5 against Kabras Sugar at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu County.
