KCB Rugby produced a composed second-half performance to beat Kenya Harlequin 24–12 in a pulsating Kenya Cup fixture played at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka, before quickly shifting focus to their next assignment against Kenyatta University.

The bankers were tested early after Quins struck first from a scrum to take a 7–0 lead. KCB responded through Oscar Simiyu, whose try was converted by Brian Wahinya to restore parity at 7–7, a scoreline that held firm at halftime after a tense and evenly matched opening period.

Quins briefly regained the lead early in the second half with their second try, but KCB showed maturity and control to wrestle back momentum. A well-worked try brought the hosts level before Wahinya calmly converted to hand KCB a 14–12 advantage. Wahinya then extended the lead with a penalty before capping off a fine personal performance with an excellent try, which he also converted to seal the win.

Speaking after the match, KCB backs coach Jacob Ojee praised the team’s patience and execution, while underlining the importance of consistency as the season progresses.

“We knew Quins would challenge us physically and tactically, so it was important to stay composed and trust our structures,” said Ojee. “The boys showed good decision-making in the second half, and that allowed us to take control of the game. Now the focus shifts to Kenyatta University. It’s another tough fixture, and we have to build on this momentum while sharpening our execution.”

With confidence boosted by the home victory, KCB Rugby will be looking to refine their attacking play and maintain defensive discipline as they prepare for the Kenyatta University encounter, keen to keep their Kenya Cup campaign firmly on track.
