KCB Reinforce Sevens Supremacy with Dramatic Dala Sevens Victory

KCB Rugby Football Club reaffirmed its dominance in the Kenyan rugby sevens circuit after clinching the 2025 Dala Sevens title in Kisumu, a victory that also secured them the overall National Sevens Circuit crown.
The Bankers edged their fierce rivals Kabras RFC 12–7 in a tense final played at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium under heavy rain on September 14, 2025.
The path to victory was anything but easy for KCB. Their most crucial test came in the quarterfinals against Strathmore Leos, who were also strong contenders for the circuit title.
In a nail-biting encounter, KCB held on to win 15–14. The game swung dramatically, with Vincent Onyala putting KCB ahead early before Strathmore’s Brian Mwendwa and Arnold Mwita combined to give the students a halftime advantage.
George Ooro restored hope for KCB with a try in the second half, but Samuel Wafula’s opportunistic score looked set to hand Strathmore victory. In the dying moments, however, Ooro struck again against his former club, sealing the narrow win and all but delivering KCB the overall title.
The final itself was another test of grit. Scrum-half Samuel Asati played a key role by snatching possession at a critical scrum to hand KCB the momentum. Kabras briefly capitalized on a sin-bin against KCB to score, keeping the contest alive at 7–5 going into the break.
The second half remained tight until Floyd Wabwire crossed the line, and despite Kabras’ late pressure, KCB’s defensive wall held firm, handing them the Dala Sevens crown and the national circuit title in emphatic fashion.
Elsewhere, Daystar Falcons secured third place with an impressive 31–0 win over Menengai Oilers, while Nakuru RFC beat Mwamba RFC 17–10 to claim fifth.
In the Challenger Cup, Catholic Monks defeated Impala RFC 26–7, while MMUST cruised past Kisumu 31–0 in the 13th-place playoff. Zetech Oaks were crowned Division Two champions after overcoming Makueni Ravens 24–12.
For KCB, the victory in Kisumu was more than just another trophy; it was a statement of sustained excellence.
With five National Sevens Circuit titles now to their name, the Bankers have cemented their place at the summit of Kenyan rugby sevens.
Head coach Andrew Amonde praised the consistency and unity that defined their season, adding that he hopes the same winning mentality can be carried into the 15-a-side format.
