Former Cabinet Secretary (CS) Senator Mutahi Kagwe has urged the Central Kenya region to adopt a long-term approach to political leadership, arguing that nurturing talent over time is crucial for both regional development and improved national governance.
Speaking at Ihwagi Secondary School while flagging off two milk coolers to Mia Mia Dairy Cooperative Society and Karatina University, Kagwe emphasized that predictable leadership is a key ingredient for sustained progress.
He criticized the current pattern of electing entirely new leaders every electoral cycle, which he argued leads to political instability and the abandonment of crucial, incomplete projects initiated by predecessors.
Kagwe stressed that the region must take a long-term view and "reason soberly" on the strategic merits of being in government or in the opposition, noting that this choice ultimately determines the region's development trajectory and success over time. Such an approach, he added, would foster the emergence of robust and accountable leadership founded on a firm, merit-based value system.
CS Kagwe was accompanied by Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, Hon. Eric Wa-Mumbi (Mathira), Hon. Anthony Njoroge Wainaina (Kieni), and Hon. Michael Wambugu Wainaina (Othaya).
