Julián Álvarez has reportedly asked to leave Atlético Madrid following an alleged dressing-room disagreement with manager Diego Simeone, sparking major transfer speculation across Europe.
Spanish media reports claim the Argentine striker is unhappy with his current role and the club’s direction after Atlético’s disappointing 2025/26 campaign. Although the club has not officially confirmed a transfer request, sources close to the situation say Álvarez has already communicated his desire to depart this summer.
Simeone further fueled speculation after recent comments suggesting the forward had already made a decision regarding his future. The Atlético boss reportedly acknowledged that interest from Europe’s top clubs was expected given Álvarez’s performances this season.
Álvarez emerged as Atlético’s leading scorer during the campaign, delivering impressive performances despite the club struggling in both domestic and European competitions. His form has attracted attention from several elite sides ahead of the summer transfer window.
Arsenal F.C. and FC Barcelona are among the clubs closely monitoring the situation, while Paris Saint-Germain F.C. has also been linked with the striker.
Atlético Madrid are nevertheless expected to demand a massive transfer fee for the Argentine international, who remains under contract until 2030. Reports in Spain suggest the club values Álvarez at around €150 million as uncertainty continues over his future in Madrid.
