Ugandan and Kenyan born athlete Jacob Kiplimo
Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo etched his name in the history books after winning the 2025 Chicago Marathon with an impressive time of 2:02:23. This victory made him the first Ugandan ever to win a World Marathon Major, confirming his rise as one of the sport’s brightest stars.
Kiplimo’s triumph came in only his second career marathon, having finished second on his debut in London earlier this year. His powerful finishing kick separated him from a strong elite field to secure a memorable victory in the windy city.
Kenya’s Amos Kipruto and Alex Masai completed the podium, finishing second and third with times of 2:03:54 and 2:04:37 respectively. Their strong performances ensured East Africa maintained its dominance in the marathon scene.
The race, held on Sunday in Chicago, attracted thousands of runners and fans, further cementing its status as one of the most prestigious marathons globally. Kiplimo’s win adds another chapter to East Africa’s rich legacy in long-distance running.
