Ivan Toney has returned to training in Saudi Arabia after being arrested in connection with an alleged assault at a high-end London venue.
England and Al-Ahli striker Ivan Toney was arrested in central London in the early hours of Saturday on suspicion of two counts of assault and one count of affray following an altercation in the Soho area. Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers were called to the scene after reports of a disturbance involving several individuals outside a venue. The 29-year-old footballer was taken into custody for questioning as officers worked to establish the circumstances that led to the confrontation.
Police confirmed that one of the alleged victims was taken to hospital for treatment, with injuries described as not life-threatening or life-changing. After several hours in custody, Toney was released on bail pending further investigations. Detectives are now analysing CCTV footage from the area and recording multiple witness statements as part of efforts to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the arrest.
According to eyewitness accounts reported by British media, the altercation allegedly began when a group of people approached Toney and asked him for a photo. It is claimed that physical contact followed during the interaction, which the footballer interpreted as aggressive. The situation is said to have quickly escalated into a confrontation, drawing the attention of bystanders and venue security.
Some reports allege that one individual suffered serious facial injuries during the incident, including a broken nose and a fractured finger, although these details have not been officially confirmed by police. Authorities have maintained that while an injury was reported and treated at hospital, the full extent and cause of the injuries remain under active investigation.
Neither Toney nor his club have issued an official statement regarding the incident as police enquiries continue. The arrest has nevertheless placed renewed scrutiny on the striker’s off-field conduct, given his previous disciplinary issues, even as he continues his professional career in Saudi Arabia after his move from the Premier League.
