At the age of 85, the head of the snake, the terrorist Ali khamenei is officially dead.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has been confirmed dead following coordinated airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel on 28 February 2026. Iranian state authorities announced his death a day later and declared a 40-day national mourning period. Khamenei, 86, had led the Islamic Republic since 1989.

The joint operation targeted multiple strategic facilities across Iran, including locations in Tehran believed to house senior leadership and military command structures. Iranian officials reported significant structural damage in several districts of the capital following the strikes.

Washington and Tel Aviv described the action as a pre-emptive response to escalating tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme and regional military activities. The operation followed years of stalled diplomatic negotiations between Iran and Western powers over nuclear enrichment and sanctions relief.

In retaliation, Iran launched ballistic missiles and drones targeting Israel and U.S. military bases in the region. Strikes were reported near installations in Gulf states that host American forces, including areas in Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

Regional airspaces were temporarily closed as airlines rerouted flights to avoid conflict zones. Several countries issued travel advisories amid concerns over further escalation and possible spillover effects.

Iranian authorities reported civilian casualties and injuries resulting from both the initial airstrikes and subsequent retaliatory exchanges. Emergency services in Tehran and other affected cities were placed on high alert.

Israel’s government stated that the strikes were aimed at degrading Iran’s military capabilities and preventing what it described as imminent threats. U.S. officials indicated the operation focused on high-value strategic targets.

The killing of Khamenei has triggered an immediate constitutional and political process within Iran. Under the country’s system, the Assembly of Experts is tasked with appointing a new supreme leader, while interim authority is maintained by senior state officials.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps intensified its presence in major cities following the announcement of Khamenei’s death. Security forces were deployed to sensitive installations and border regions.

Public reaction in Tehran included organized mourning gatherings as well as heightened security measures around government buildings. State media broadcast continuous coverage of memorial activities.

Global markets reacted sharply to the escalation, particularly in energy trading, given the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz for global oil shipments. Analysts warned of potential supply disruptions if hostilities expand.

The United Nations Security Council convened emergency consultations to assess the situation. Several member states called for restraint and renewed diplomatic engagement to prevent broader regional conflict.

European and Asian governments issued statements urging de-escalation and dialogue. Diplomatic channels between regional actors remained active as international mediators sought to contain the crisis.

Security analysts describe the development as one of the most consequential events in Middle East geopolitics in decades, with potential long-term implications for Iran’s internal leadership structure, regional alliances and global strategic stability.
