Interior cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen in Kapenguria today
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has arrived in Kapenguria, West Pokot County, for the second day of an ongoing security assessment tour of the Kerio Valley region, as the government intensifies efforts to curb banditry and restore lasting peace in the North Rift.
The visit is part of the Jukwaa la Usalama initiative, through which the Interior Ministry is evaluating the effectiveness of current security operations, engaging security agencies and consulting local leaders and communities affected by persistent insecurity.
During the Kapenguria visit, Murkomen is also set to launch the Usajili Mashinani Mobile ID Registration and Sensitisation Programme, aimed at bringing national identification services closer to residents in remote and historically marginalised areas.
The mobile registration drive seeks to address long-standing challenges faced by residents who lack national identity documents, a situation that has limited access to government services, education opportunities and economic empowerment programmes.
The Cabinet Secretary is accompanied by senior government officials, including top security commanders and national administration officers, highlighting a coordinated, multi-agency approach to addressing security and service delivery challenges in the region.
Murkomen is expected to hold high-level meetings with local leadership, security teams and community representatives as the government pushes for sustained peace, enhanced intelligence-led operations and inclusive development across the Kerio Valley.
