Installation of Public Wi-Fi to Enhance Security in Mwala

The government has introduced public Wi-Fi at Masii market in Mwala Sub County, Machakos County, as part of an effort to address security concerns in the area.

This free Wi-Fi service will enable local security teams and residents in Masii and Mwala to receive timely alerts in case of criminal activities, allowing for a swift response.

Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko expressed her appreciation for the government's initiative to provide Wi-Fi in Masii, as it will allow her security team to establish various communication channels with the local community to combat the increasing incidents of cattle rustling in the region.

Additionally, she noted that the Wi-Fi will facilitate online business expansion for local entrepreneurs in Masii.

"This Wi-Fi will not only benefit business owners but also improve security in the area. We are aware of cattle theft cases in Masii, and the internet will aid in tracking such incidents," said the County Commissioner.

Ouko also requested that the internet connection be extended to Masii School and a nearby youth center to create employment opportunities for the youth.

Present at the launch was Mwala Member of Parliament, Vincent Musyoka Kawaya, who highlighted the significant benefits of public Wi-Fi for the people of Mwala, emphasizing their pioneering role in technology-related matters.

Musyoka mentioned that Mwala had been at the forefront of introducing the Digital Bursary Application Management system, which has been adopted by over 20 constituencies. He also emphasized his earlier efforts to establish innovation hubs that connect to the internet and train youth to empower themselves.

Other attendees included Foreign Affairs and Diaspora CS Dr. Alfred Mutua and Mwala MCA Douglas Muema.
