IEBC Sets New Date For The Postponed Elections
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has announced new dates for the elections in the areas where they had been postponed.
The commissioners led by Wafula Chebukati said they are now ready to conduct the polls on Monday,29th August.
The new election dates were arrived at after a consultative meeting between the candidates and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) at the Bomas of Kenya.
"We will hold the elections on Monday unless there are other suggestions from you," Chebukati told candidates contesting in the elections during a meeting with them at Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi.
The election had been postponed twice, the first postponement followed an error in ballot papers, while the second some of the commissioners had been harassed and injured during the announcement of the presidential results at the Bomas of Kenya by people who accompanied political leaders for the event hence unable to attend duty.
For the first time since commissioners Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi, Irene Masit, and Justus Nyang'aya, disowned the 2022 General Elections presidential results, set their differences aside and sat together with others at the Bomas of Kenya for a press briefing.
The electoral body now says the candidates contesting in the regions can campaign up to 48 hours before the election day.
The areas include Kakamega and Mombassa county gubernatorial elections, four constituencies which were Pokot South, Kitui Rural, Rongai, and Kachileba, and two electoral wards in Nyaki West in North Imenti constituency and Kwa Njenga in Embakasi South.
