Hugo Ekitike has been handed a two-week wage fine following his red card in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup clash against Southampton on September 23, 2025. The 23-year-old forward was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for removing his shirt during goal celebrations, having already been booked for dissent.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot described Ekitike’s actions as “needless and stupid,” stressing the importance of keeping emotions in check during matches. He emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable and highlighted the need for players to maintain discipline on the field.
