Harambee Stars Withdraw From Cecafa Four Nations Tournament

BY BARAKA SIMBA
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced that Harambee Stars will not take part in the CECAFA Four Nations Tournament set to be held in Tanzania.
In a press statement dated July 21, 2025, the federation cited recommendations from Head Coach Benni McCarthy and the technical team following a review of the team’s readiness and the conditions on the ground.
“This decision has been made following recommendations and advice from the team’s technical bench, led by Head Coach Benni McCarthy, after a thorough assessment of the prevailing conditions, which were deemed unsuitable for the team’s participation and overall preparation,” FKF stated.
The team is now expected to return to Kenya to begin preparations for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024. FKF stressed that all efforts will now go into ensuring the squad is fully prepared for the upcoming continental duty.
“The team will return to Kenya and resume preparations... with full focus now shifting to ensuring optimal readiness for the assignment ahead,” the statement added.
FKF concluded by reaffirming its commitment to the national team, saying it will continue to provide the national team with the best possible environment to compete and represent the country with pride.
