Harambee Stars Cruise into CHAN Quarterfinals.

Kenya’s Harambee Stars have made history by clinching a spot in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) quarter-finals—without even stepping onto the pitch.
Their advancement was secured thanks to the dramatic outcomes of other Group A matches played on Thursday, August 14, 2025
Morocco defeated Zambia 2–1 in a must-win match at Nyayo National Stadium. Their early urgency paid off, with Mohamed Hrimat opening the scoring just before halftime, followed by Oussama Lamlaoui doubling the lead early in the second half.
DR Congo beat Angola 2–0, further reshaping the Group A standings.
With these results, Kenya now sits top of Group A with seven points from two wins and a draw—it cannot be overtaken for sure. The tournament’s tiebreaker rules favor Kenya, as they boast superior head-to-head records, having defeated both Morocco and DR Congo earlier in the group stage.
This milestone marks Kenya’s first-ever place in the CHAN knockout rounds, achieved despite still having a group match to play.
Kenya still has one group fixture remaining—against already-eliminated Zambia on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani
Finishing first in Group A hinges on a victory in this match. A win would not only top the group but also potentially help avoid a tougher quarter-final opponent
A draw or loss would still see Kenya through to the quarter-finals, but could set up a likely clash with a stronger side like Tanzania, the Group B leader.
