Gov't Assures NHIF Workers Of Jobs At SHA
Head of Public Service Felix Koskei has assured National Hospital and Insurance Fund (NHIF) employees of job security amidst the transition to the Social Health Authority (SHA).
"The entire staff of SHA has not been filled, and the people who will be given priority and who deserve first priority are the NHIF staff. That is the assurance we have given them," said Koskei.
In a town hall meeting on Wednesday, Koskei promised transparent appraisals and absorption into government positions for those who don't transition to SHA.
"Those who perhaps don't manage to be onboarded will be deployed to other government institutions, ministries, parastatals, and other agencies, so that at the end of the day, 100% ration retention will be assured," he stated.
This comes as many NHIF employees fear job losses due to the digital nature of SHA roles.
The public service boss further assured Kenyans that they will not be denied health services, especially in hospitals and health facilities enrolled under the Social Health Authority.
But, he added, certain facilities might provide treatments that aren't necessarily given priority under Universal Health Coverage, and some facilities haven't been awarded SHA contracts yet.
Meanwhile, over 13 million Kenyans have switched from NHIF to SHA, and as the authority commemorates one month since the registration process started, many more are anticipated to follow suit in the upcoming weeks.
