Gor Mahia FC secured a convincing 2-0 victory over reigning champions Kenya Police FC at the Nyayo National Stadium, asserting their dominance in this season’s league title race.
From the outset, the Green Army controlled the match. Their opener came courtesy of Felix Oluoch, who capitalised on a smart assist from Ghanaian import Ebenezer Adu‑Kwaw. The second goal arrived in the 33rd minute via Musa Shariff, effectively sealing the result.
With the win, Gor Mahia now sit on 16 points — two ahead of Kakamega Homeboyz in second place. Meanwhile, Kenya Police, who entered the fixture unbeaten, were unable to break down Gor’s well-organised defence or match their tempo on the pitch.
Ahead of the clash, assistant coach Kobi Bismark‑Mensah acknowledged the challenge of balancing club commitments with national team call-ups, mentioning that seven Gor Mahia players — including Bryton Onyona and Musa Shariff — are expected to join the Harambee Stars for upcoming friendlies against the Equatorial Guinea national team and Senegal national team later this month. While these absences can impact squad strength, Bismark-Mensah emphasised the benefit of such exposure for the players.
Despite the international commitments, Gor Mahia displayed excellent cohesion on the day, bouncing back from a 1-1 draw in their previous league match against Ulinzi Stars FC.
For the Kenya Police, their head coach, Dušan Stojanović (in only his second game in charge), admitted that his team prepared earnestly, but ultimately could not overcome Gor’s superior performance.
The result underscores Gor Mahia’s enduring status as a dominant force in Kenyan football. With their current form and emerging talent, the Green Army look strongly placed to maintain their charge towards the title.
