Ghana Govt Builds Capacity Of Persons With Disabilities In Digital Technology
The government of Ghana is now helping Persons With Disabilities build their skills for gainful employment through Skills Training and Education.
According to the Ghana government, advancing digital inclusion for Persons with disabilities (PWDs) will enable them to take advantage of digital and financial technology services.
They have so far enrolled 30pc of persons with disabilities at the Ghana Digital Centre in Accra to acquire the requisite skills and knowledge to build their capacity for them to contribute to national development.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communications and Digitalization while speaking at the workshop on digital accessibility for PWDs in Accra, said giving the right skills to PWDs and providing them with assistive technology could help them secure jobs.
Workshop participants included the Ghana National Council on PWDs, various PWD groups, representatives from the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization, the World Bank, the private sector and ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
According to Business Ghana news reports, major issues discussed were the importance of digital access to persons with disability, interventions, gaps in digital accessibility, and solutions to strengthen policy directives in its drive.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful called on the private sector and the development partners to support PWDs with assistive technology devices.
She said the provision of materials, such as sunscreens, readers, magnifiers, transcription, and subtitle devices, would complement the government’s efforts at advancing digital inclusion for PWDs.
Disability inclusion is an essential condition for upholding human rights and sustainable development, each country is tasked to ensure persons with disabilities are helped to reach the furthest in all areas of work.
