Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday held a public engagement forum in Githunguri Constituency, Kiambu County, as he continues to expand grassroots mobilization efforts across the Mt. Kenya region.

The meeting drew hundreds of residents and local leaders, marking one of a series of political outreach events aimed at consolidating influence in the vote-rich central Kenya bloc.

During the forum, Gachagua addressed residents on governance issues, accusing the current administration of fostering corruption, state capture, and policies that he said have sidelined ordinary citizens.

He told attendees that his movement would continue engaging wananchi directly, emphasizing the need for civic awareness and public participation in shaping the country’s leadership direction.

The former Deputy President framed the engagement as part of a broader strategy to “reclaim the country,” positioning himself and his allies as reform advocates seeking accountability in government.

Residents in attendance were given an opportunity to raise concerns, with economic challenges, the rising cost of living, and agricultural sustainability emerging as key issues.

Githunguri, known for its strong agricultural base, particularly dairy and coffee farming, featured prominently in discussions on farmer earnings and market access.

Leaders present highlighted the need for policy reforms to protect small-scale farmers, many of whom rely on cooperative societies for income and market stability.

The constituency is home to Githunguri Dairy Farmers Cooperative Society, one of the largest farmer-owned dairy processors in the region, often cited as a key economic pillar.

Several political figures allied to Gachagua attended the event, signaling ongoing efforts to build a broader coalition ahead of future elections.

The gathering also underscored the shifting political dynamics within Mt. Kenya, where leaders are increasingly engaging directly with constituents amid evolving alliances.

Gachagua reiterated his commitment to sustained public engagement, stating that his team would continue holding forums across different counties to strengthen grassroots networks.

He thanked residents of Githunguri for their turnout and support, describing public participation as central to the movement’s objectives.

The event concluded with calls for unity among residents and leaders, with organizers indicating that similar engagements would be rolled out across other parts of Kiambu and neighboring counties.

The Githunguri meeting is seen as part of a wider campaign by Gachagua to reassert his political presence following his 2024 impeachment and reposition himself within Kenya’s opposition landscape.
