Rigathi Gachagua campaign team clocks Githurai 45 roundabout to rally support for the 2027 election bid
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday took his political tour to Roysambu Constituency in Nairobi, addressing residents of Zimmerman, Githurai 44 and surrounding areas as part of ongoing opposition mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election. The engagements followed a church service at PCEA Zimmerman and drew a section of elected leaders allied to the opposition.
During the rally, Gachagua urged residents to remain steadfast, declaring that the opposition was determined to challenge the current administration in the next election cycle. He framed the 2027 polls, scheduled for August 10, 2027, as a decisive political moment, telling supporters that the date would mark a turning point for the country.
The former deputy president criticised what he described as heavy-handed state response to dissent, insisting that citizens have a constitutional right to assemble and express their views. He said the concerns raised by residents regarding governance and civil liberties would not be ignored.
Gachagua was accompanied by several leaders, including former Attorney General Justin Muturi, Roysambu MP Kamande Mwafrika, Senators Joe Nyutu and Murango Kamau, as well as MPs Mohammed Ali, James Gakuya, Amos Mwago, Benjamin Gathiru MejjaDonk, Onesmus Ngogoyo, John Kaguchia and Gitonga Mukunji. EALA MP Kanini Kega and Woman Representative Njeri Maina were also present alongside elected and nominated MCAs.
At the event, Gachagua acknowledged the participation of Nyali MP Mohammed Ali in opposition activities, signalling continued coordination among leaders seeking to consolidate support across regions ahead of 2027.
The rally comes amid heightened political activity within the United Opposition, which has in recent weeks intensified grassroots engagements in Nairobi and the Mount Kenya region as part of broader coalition-building efforts.
Gachagua reiterated calls for accountability over recent incidents involving political gatherings and places of worship, stating that investigations must be transparent and that those responsible for violence should face prosecution.
The National Police Service has previously confirmed that investigations into such incidents are ongoing, with statements recorded and evidence under review as part of official probes.
Sunday’s Roysambu engagement forms part of a wider strategy by the opposition to strengthen its presence in urban constituencies, particularly in Nairobi, which remains a key battleground in national elections.
Leaders at the rally emphasised unity within the opposition ranks, urging supporters to remain organised and engaged as political realignments continue to take shape ahead of the next general election.
Kenya’s political environment remains active as both government and opposition figures continue nationwide tours, public engagements and coalition talks in preparation for the August 2027 polls.
