Rigathi Gachagua urges 174 DCP aspirants to unite, mobilize members, and prepare for free, fair nominations ahead of 2027 elections.

Rigathi Gachagua, leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), engaged with a large group of party aspirants in Nairobi, where he reiterated the party’s commitment to conducting free and fair nominations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Party sources indicate that 174 aspirants from Kajiado County were present at the meeting, representing various positions including presidency, governor, senator, women representative, members of parliament and county assembly seats. The gathering aimed to outline the roadmap for candidate selection within the party.

Gachagua encouraged the aspirants to intensify membership recruitment, highlighting that the party membership register will be the basis for the upcoming primaries.

He emphasised that the success of the DCP in the elections will depend on grassroots mobilisation, unity among aspirants, and adherence to the party’s principles as they prepare for internal contests.

The event also saw Gachagua outline strategic goals for the party, including fielding candidates for all major elective positions — from the presidency down to county assembly seats — reflecting his broader vision for DCP’s role in Kenya’s political landscape.

Gachagua’s engagement with aspirants comes amid ongoing efforts by the DCP to strengthen its organisational structures and expand its presence nationally since its launch in 2025.

In addition to party mobilisation, Gachagua has in recent weeks been vocal on national political issues, including critiquing government performance on matters such as security and voter registration, part of his broader positioning as a national leader.

On the same day, news was confirmed of the death of former Kirinyaga Senator Daniel Karaba, who served in the Senate from 2013 to 2017 and was noted for his long career in public service and education.

Karaba’s passing was acknowledged widely, with tributes from political figures across the spectrum recognising his contributions to both national and county leadership during his tenure.

Meanwhile, party leaders and members who attended Gachagua’s meeting expressed optimism over the DCP’s strategy, emphasising the importance of unity and disciplined campaign planning in the months leading to the next general election.
