DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua engages residents of Kamurandi in Gichugu Constituency, Kirinyaga

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua held a public engagement at Murinduko Shopping Centre in Mwea Constituency, Kirinyaga County, as part of a wider outreach tour in the region on Saturday, March 28, 2026. Large crowds attended the event.

The engagement, which also included stops in other parts of Kirinyaga County such as Kangai, featured speeches emphasizing the need for political accountability, greater public involvement in governance, and attention to local needs.

Gachagua reiterated his commitment to fight corruption, extrajudicial killings, and mismanagement under the current national government, criticizing the ruling leadership’s priorities.

Supporters and local residents were shown engaging with Gachagua and his campaign team, although the names of individuals accompanying him at Murinduko were not publicly released.

Gachagua called for unity among Kenyans and urged residents to remain vigilant about leadership performance ahead of the 2027 general elections, framing his tour as part of a broader push for political reform.

In national political commentary today, he accused the ruling regime of unprecedented levels of corruption and extrajudicial actions, reinforcing themes he has advanced in recent months.

Separately, Gachagua responded publicly to a renewed succession dispute involving the estate of his late brother, former Nyeri County Governor Nderitu Gachagua, who died in 2017.

He insisted that his brother’s property was fully and legally administered under a court-approved will in 2018, dismissing recent claims of irregularities as politically motivated.

Gachagua said all beneficiaries had agreed to the terms of the will before a court, which then endorsed the document and authorised its execution, including the sale of assets and distribution to entitled beneficiaries.

He challenged the timing of the renewed claims, noting that no objections had been raised at the time the succession was finalised nearly a decade ago, and defended his position that the matter was closed legally.

Gachagua criticised President William Ruto’s reported engagement with some family members about the dispute, telling political actors to “keep off” private family matters and arguing that such involvement was inappropriate.

In a separate interview, he rejected accusations from some relatives, saying the window for legal appeals had long passed and urging family members to return to court if they wished to contest the will.

He characterised the appeal to the President and broader publicity around the estate issues as being driven by political agendas rather than genuine legal concerns, a claim that fits his broader critique of the government.

The estate dispute has gained wider attention after relatives of the late governor wrote to the Office of the Attorney-General and President Ruto seeking intervention, alleging irregular transfers of assets and questioning the validity of the contested will.
