Gachagua Calls For One United Opposition Candidate In 2027

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on leaders within the United Opposition to remain vigilant against alleged attempts by the government to infiltrate and divide the coalition ahead of the 2027 General Election. Speaking during a political rally, Gachagua claimed some opposition figures were secretly working with the government to create divisions among opposition leaders.
“Mimi nataka niambie principles ya United opposition mkuwe very careful katika vyama vyenu kwa sababu ndani ya vyama vyenu Kasongo ameweka watu huko ndani kuja kusambaratisha upinzani.”
Gachagua accused one unnamed opposition leader of attempting to create hostility among coalition principals by questioning possible presidential bids by different leaders within the alliance. He alleged the individual was being used by the government to weaken opposition unity.
“Jana nimeona kiongozi mmoja wa chama ambaye yuko katika upinzani ameenda pale kwa TV kujaribu kuleta uhasama ndani ya viongozi wa upinzani.”
“Ati anasema Riggy G akisimama ati Kalonzo ataenda wapi ati Riggy G akisimama Matiang'i yuko wapi.”
The former deputy president insisted that any opposition presidential candidate would only emerge after consultations and consensus among all coalition leaders. He said whoever is chosen to carry the opposition flag would receive full backing from the rest of the coalition.
“Riggy G atakuwa kwa debe kama atakuwa ni yeye the soul candidate wa opposition kufukuza William Ruto aende nyumbani.”
“Kama Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka ndio atakuwa kwa debe, atakuwa kwa debe kwa niaba yetu.”
Gachagua further stated that if former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i is selected as the coalition’s flag bearer, all opposition leaders would unite behind him in the race against President William Ruto.
“Kama Dr. Fred Matiang'i ndio atapeperusha bendera yetu, Riggy G atakuwa amekubali Kalonzo atakuwa amekubali Eugene Wamalwa atakuwa amekubali Mother Karua atakuwa amekubali.”
He maintained that the coalition’s primary objective is to field one presidential candidate capable of defeating President Ruto in the 2027 election. According to Gachagua, opposition supporters have consistently demanded unity among their leaders.
“Yule kiongozi atapeperusha bendera yetu tutakuwa sote tumekubaliana na Wakenya ndio tukuwe na one candidate pekee yake ya kupambana na William Ruto aende nyumbani.”
Gachagua also claimed that many of his supporters believe he should be the opposition’s presidential candidate, although he stressed that the final decision would be reached collectively by coalition leaders.
“Nikiongea na wafuasi wangu mamilioni nikiongea na Wakenya wengi wanasema Riggy G apewe bendera akuwe sole presidential candidate ya kupigana na Kasongo.”
In a further show of unity, Gachagua said he and his supporters would back whichever leader is eventually chosen to lead the opposition coalition, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua or Matiang’i.
“Rig G anasema kama haitakuwa ni yeye ikuwe ni Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka Rig G mwenyewe na wafuasi wake mamilioni wataunga mkono Kalonzo Musyoka.”
“Rig G anasema kama itakubalika dada yake mama wetu Martha Karua ndio anatosha kupeperusha bendera.”
The former deputy president further accused unnamed individuals within the opposition of allegedly working with state agencies to create divisions among coalition leaders. He insisted the opposition remains united despite such attempts.
“Wewe unajifanya huko ndani ya upinzani umewekwa hapa na National Intelligence Service kuja kugawanya viongozi ya upinzani.”
“Fred Matiang'i, Kalonzo Musyoka, Rig G mwenyewe, Mother Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, Justin Muturi, George Natembeya na akina fula sisi tuko kitu kimo.”
Gachagua assured Kenyans that opposition leaders would not allow their votes to be divided in 2027, saying the coalition is committed to agreeing on one candidate to face President Ruto.
“Wakenya wametuambia tunataka kufukuza William Ruto lakini nyinyi viongozi wenu mwende mketi msikizane mtoe one candidate wa kupambana na William Ruto.”
“Hatuwezi kubali kugawa kura yetu Kasongo apitie katikati.”
