Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhães is facing a race against time to be fit for this weekend’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace after picking up an injury during the midweek encounter against Atlético Madrid.

Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that the Brazilian centre-back left the pitch with an issue and has not trained since, raising concerns about his availability for Saturday’s match. “He felt something after the game and we’ll see how he evolves in the next 24 hours,” Arteta said during his pre-match press briefing.

Reports indicate that the injury is not believed to be serious, but Arsenal’s medical team will continue to assess the player’s condition before making a final decision. Gabriel has been a key figure in the Gunners’ defence this season, forming a solid partnership with William Saliba at the back.

Arteta will be hoping the 26-year-old recovers in time, as Arsenal aim to maintain their strong start to the league campaign. Should Gabriel miss out, Jakub Kiwior or Ben White could step in to cover his position in central defence.

Further updates on Gabriel’s fitness are expected before Arsenal’s squad announcement ahead of the Crystal Palace game.
