Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus has emphasized that his move to the Premier League club was motivated by ambition to win trophies rather than just scoring goals. Speaking about his role under manager Mikel Arteta, Jesus said, “When I came here to join Mikel, my purpose was not only to score goals. My purpose was to win titles.”
The Brazilian explained that when he first arrived in England, fans and pundits viewed him primarily as a goalscorer. “When I came to the Premier League, I think most people’s reaction was, ‘Oh? Who is this kid?’ They looked at me as a pure goalscorer. But that’s not how I see myself,” he added.
Jesus highlighted his versatility and willingness to adapt for the good of the team. “My strongest trait is that I will do whatever it takes to help the team win titles. At City, I played many roles. I shared the goal-scoring load sometimes, other times I played out on the wing, and other times I used my physicality to link up play,” he said.
He stressed that he does not need to always play as the central striker to make an impact. “I don’t always need to be the number nine to help the team. I am not still here for the weather. I am here to make history,” Jesus added, reinforcing his commitment to Arsenal’s ambitions.
Reflecting on his time under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Jesus emphasized how adapting to different tactical roles helped him grow as a player. “At City, I learned to be flexible and put the team first. Every role I played was about helping the team win and achieve success,” he said.
The comments come as Arsenal pursue domestic and European glory, with Jesus’s versatility and determination expected to play a key role in their campaign. Fans and pundits alike see his mindset as vital in helping Arteta’s side compete at the highest level.
