Eintracht Frankfurt made a flying start to their UEFA Champions League campaign with a resounding 5-1 victory over Galatasaray on Wednesday night. The visitors had taken an early lead through Yunus Akgün in the eighth minute, but Frankfurt quickly regrouped and dominated the rest of the match.
Dávid Sánchez equalised in the 37th minute before Can Uzun struck just before halftime to put the hosts ahead. Moments later, Galatasaray defender Wilfried Singo bundled the ball into his own net, giving Frankfurt a commanding 3-1 lead at the break.
The German side maintained their intensity in the second half, with Jonathan Burkardt extending the advantage in the 66th minute. Ansgar Knauff then capped off a superb performance with a fifth goal in the 75th minute, sealing a memorable victory in front of their home supporters.
The result puts Frankfurt in a strong position in Group Stage proceedings, while Galatasaray will be left ruing missed chances after their early breakthrough.
