FKF President Hussein Mohamed has been suspended by the federation’s National Executive Committee (NEC)

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has suspended its President Hussein Mohammed, NEC member Yusuf Ibrahim and Acting Secretary-General Dennis Gicheru pending investigations into alleged financial misconduct involving approximately Sh42.4 million.

The decision was taken by the FKF National Executive Committee following an emergency meeting held in Nairobi after emerging concerns over the federation’s procurement and financial processes.

The suspensions come amid scrutiny over an insurance contract tied to preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) activities, which has attracted questions from oversight bodies and stakeholders.

Investigations are focusing on payments reportedly made to an insurance broker in connection with the tournament, with concerns raised about how the contract was awarded and whether due procurement procedures were followed.

Reports indicate that the contract under review involved a multimillion-shilling payout that is now being assessed for compliance with procurement regulations and federation financial policies.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and other regulatory bodies are understood to have taken interest in the matter as part of ongoing scrutiny of sports administration finances.

FKF officials have stated that the suspensions are intended to allow independent investigations to proceed without interference from those implicated in the allegations.

The federation has not publicly named interim replacements for the suspended officials, though internal structures are expected to continue managing operations during the probe period.

The controversy follows heightened public attention on FKF governance, with stakeholders calling for stronger accountability and transparency in the management of football funds.

Those affected by the suspension are expected to cooperate with investigators as audit teams review financial records, procurement documents and approval processes linked to the disputed funds.

No formal charges have been announced, and the matter remains under investigation by relevant authorities tasked with verifying the allegations and establishing whether any wrongdoing occurred.

Further updates are expected once audit findings and investigative reports are completed and submitted to the appropriate regulatory and legal bodies.
