The family of Nderitu Gachagua has formally written to William Ruto seeking state intervention in a long-running dispute over the late businessman’s multi-billion estate.
In a petition dated March 2026, the family alleges irregularities in the handling and distribution of property following Nderitu’s death in 2017 in London, where he had been undergoing treatment.
The letter, submitted through government channels, calls for an independent investigation into what the family describes as possible fraud, manipulation, and unlawful transfer of assets linked to the estate.
At the center of the dispute is a contested will that has been used to allocate the late businessman’s wealth among beneficiaries, including relatives and close associates.
Family members argue that the document in question is labeled “Draft Last Will and Testament,” raising serious concerns about its legal validity and whether it should have been used in succession proceedings.
They further claim that Nderitu was critically ill with pancreatic cancer at the time the document was allegedly signed, questioning whether he had the physical or mental capacity to understand or approve its contents.
According to the petition, his deteriorating condition meant he was bedridden and unable to properly review or execute legal documents, casting doubt on the authenticity of the will.
The family has also accused a close relative, widely linked to Rigathi Gachagua, of influencing the management of the estate and benefiting from disputed transactions.
They allege that some properties were transferred irregularly and that proxies may have been used to gain control over key assets without the consent of rightful beneficiaries.
The petition further claims that immediate family members were sidelined in the distribution process, effectively denying them access to inheritance they believe is rightfully theirs.
Among the demands presented to President Ruto are the recovery of allegedly misappropriated assets, protection of affected family members, and a full audit of the estate’s administration.
The family states that previous attempts to resolve the matter privately and through legal channels have not yielded satisfactory outcomes, prompting the appeal for executive intervention.
However, the allegations remain contested, and no court has conclusively ruled that the will was forged or that any criminal wrongdoing occurred in the administration of the estate.
Rigathi Gachagua has in the past denied any misconduct, maintaining that his involvement in the estate was lawful and in line with the wishes of his late brother.
The unfolding dispute continues to draw public and political attention, with its outcome likely to have significant legal and family implications as calls for transparency and accountability intensify.
