Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez

Chelsea have reportedly slapped a £120 million valuation on midfielder Enzo Fernández as uncertainty over his future at Stamford Bridge intensifies following stalled contract negotiations. The Argentine World Cup winner is understood to be open to leaving the club this summer, with Real Madrid emerging as his preferred destination should a formal offer arrive.

Reports indicate Chelsea would ideally like to retain Fernández despite growing speculation around his long-term future. However, discussions over improved terms are said to have made little progress, creating tension ahead of a crucial rebuilding period for the club after another turbulent campaign.

Real Madrid have continued monitoring the 25-year-old as part of their midfield restructuring plans, with the Spanish giants viewing him as a long-term addition capable of leading the next generation at the Santiago Bernabéu. Fernández is believed to be interested in the move and would welcome talks if Madrid officially approach Chelsea.

Manchester City had also been linked with the midfielder in recent months, particularly following managerial changes involving Enzo Maresca, but reports suggest there has been no major progress toward a deal with the Premier League champions.

Chelsea are understood to want clarity over Fernández’s situation quickly as the club prepares for a fresh era under incoming manager Xabi Alonso. Club officials reportedly believe resolving uncertainty surrounding key players is essential after a season marked by inconsistency and dressing-room instability.

Fernández joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for a British-record fee exceeding £106 million after starring for Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Despite flashes of quality, the midfielder has endured mixed fortunes during his time in London amid Chelsea’s struggles domestically and in Europe.

The midfielder remains under a long-term contract running until 2031, meaning Chelsea are under no immediate pressure to sell. However, the club’s £120 million valuation signals they would only consider negotiations if a major offer arrives from one of Europe’s elite sides.

Real Madrid’s continued interest is expected to keep the story alive throughout the transfer window, with Fernández now emerging as one of the biggest names potentially available this summer.
