Edung Ethekon New IEBC Chairperson

President William Ruto has nominated Erastus Edung Ethekon to be the new Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The announcement comes after the IEBC selection panel interviewed candidates from March 24 to April 24 and submitted the report on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
The 48-year-old will now be vetted by Parliament and, if authorized, will take on the duty of chairing the next elections.
Edung worked as a consultant partner at Northern Consulting Solution and Ethekon & Co. Advocates for over 20 years before being nominated.
In a press release issued on Thursday by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, the President also nominated six other individuals to serve on the commission.
These include Ann Njeri Nderitu (Nyandarua), Moses Alutalala Mukhwana (Kakamega), Mary Karen Sorobit (Uasin Gishu), Hassan Noor Hassan (Mandera), Francis Odhiambo Aduol (Kisumu), and Fahima Araphat Abdallah (Lamu).
Ethekon, a former Turkana County Attorney, is expected to succeed the late former IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati, who died in February of this year, pending parliamentary confirmation.
