Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has delivered a positive team news update ahead of the weekend fixture, easing concerns over the fitness of several key first-team players.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Arteta confirmed that defender Jurrien Timber is fit and available despite recent doubts. The Dutch international had missed part of training, prompting speculation over his condition.
“Jurrien is fine. He’s fit and available for the weekend,” Arteta said, putting to rest fears of another setback for the versatile defender.
The Arsenal boss also provided an encouraging update on Bukayo Saka, who picked up an injury during the warm-up before the Gunners’ recent match against Leeds.
Arteta revealed that the England winger is making strong progress in his recovery. “His hip is getting much better. Hopefully very soon he will be with us,” he said.
Pressed on whether Saka could return imminently, Arteta added: “Very soon, very soon,” though he stopped short of confirming his availability for the immediate next game.
Club captain Martin Odegaard is also nearing a return after missing recent action, with Arteta suggesting the midfielder’s comeback is close.
“Martin again is getting better. It will be a matter of days, we believe,” Arteta stated, raising optimism that Odegaard could be back as early as tomorrow.
The Norwegian’s return would be a significant boost for Arsenal, given his influence in midfield and leadership role within the squad.
Arteta noted that beyond the currently known concerns, there are no new injury issues affecting the team as preparations continue for the busy run of fixtures.
The manager also addressed the wider squad situation, confirming that young midfielder Max Dowman remains sidelined and is expected to be out for a few weeks with an ankle ligament problem.
