Parents and guardians residing in Kericho and caring for children with disabilities have been encouraged to enroll their children with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD).

Hellen Tuwei, the Senior Disability Officer of Kericho County, emphasized the array of opportunities available for the children.

She urged parents and guardians to visit NCPWD offices and have their children assessed for official recognition by the government. By doing so, these children can access government scholarships and cash transfer programs designed for orphans and vulnerable children, as well as those with severe disabilities. Additionally, they can benefit from assistive devices, receive skincare products (for persons with albinism), and gain access to job placement opportunities.

The Kericho County Disability Officer also stressed the importance of exposing children with disabilities to educational environments. This exposure equips them with the skills needed to become self-reliant and contribute productively to their communities.

She further called on parents and guardians not to underestimate the potential of the children, stating that they can lead fulfilling lives within their communities.

Tuwei also addressed the issue of stigmatization and discrimination, emphasizing that these factors often hinder their productivity.
