Disability Is Not Inability: Caroline Wanjira Representing Kenya In A Wheelchair

Caroline Wanjira, a Kenyan with a disability, has proven to other Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) that their dreams are valid and within reach. She is a wheelchair basketball player and athlete who has proudly represented the country and raised the Kenyan flag abroad.
Speaking during The Hashtag Podcast on Signs TV, hosted by Chris Mwololo, Caroline appeared bold and patriotic as she shared her journey of serving and representing Kenya in various capacities. As a Motivational Peer Trainer (MPT), she said her goal is to help create a better and more inclusive life for fellow PWDs.
“As MPTs, we ensure proper distribution of wheelchairs to PWDs across Kenya. There are different types of wheelchairs depending on the nature of the disability,” she explained, citing electronic wheelchairs, commode wheelchairs, and standard models used by many.
As a member of the Kenya Federation of Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair Athletics, Caroline highlighted her international achievements in sports.
“I have been playing for the country abroad. I have participated in wheelchair games at the Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games, and we have done well,” she said.
Caroline’s story is a powerful reminder that disability is not inability. Through sports, mentorship, and service, she continues to inspire others to rise above limitations and chase their dreams, showing that with resilience and opportunity, anything is possible.
