Kenya Bureau of Standards in collaboration with inABLE.org launched the five-ever national ICT accessibility standard development process in Africa.
This new standard is set to ensure that Persons With Disabilities and older persons who had been disconnected from most e-government services as well as digital platforms have equal access to Public and Private sector digital products and services.
Speaking during the launch in Naivasha, Irene Mbari-Kirika, Founder and Executive Director at inABLE, explained that a national ICT Accessibility standard is crucial to ensure persons with disabilities have access to useful digital information.
The KEBS Managing Director, Lt Col also noted that Digital standards play a critical role in ensuring that accessibility challenges are addressed in a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disability.
