Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two suspects and seized a large cache of suspected stolen mobile phones in an intelligence‑led operation in Trans Nzoia County. The operation took place on Monday in the Lessos area, on the outskirts of Kitale town.

Officers from the DCI’s Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), in collaboration with Matisi Police Station, conducted a targeted raid following credible intelligence about illegal activities at a local residence near Airport Church.

During the operation, 24‑year-old Silas Wanjala and 28‑year-old Job Kiberenge Sikuku were arrested on suspicion of handling stolen electronic devices.

A search of the premises led to the recovery of 213 mobile phones of various makes and models, believed to have been stolen and intended for illegal resale.

Investigators also seized a Pandora machine, used to bypass security features and reprogram phones, along with three HP laptops, all secured as exhibits for further investigation.

All recovered items are currently under forensic analysis to determine their origin and any connection to reported thefts in the region.

Authorities are working to identify whether the suspects are part of a larger network engaged in the trafficking of stolen electronics.

The DCI emphasized its commitment to dismantling organised criminal networks involved in the illegal mobile phone trade, which often contributes to broader insecurity and economic loss.

Members of the public have been urged to remain vigilant, avoid buying second-hand phones from unverified sources, and report suspicious activity to law enforcement.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations and preparation of the prosecution file are complete.

This operation is part of ongoing national efforts to disrupt networks involved in stolen goods, reflecting heightened enforcement against technology‑enabled crime.
