Deputy President Kithure Kindiki addressed farmers in Kirinyaga County during the Coffee Revival Programme launch, attended by President William Ruto and national and county leaders.
Kindiki used the platform to emphasize that the event was focused on farmers and the President’s development agenda, encouraging unity and engagement from the audience.
“Mimi nataka nitoe kongole, nitoe heko. Ndio kanaatigo.”
The Deputy President praised local leadership in Kirinyaga County, highlighting Governor Anne Waiguru and other elected leaders for their coordination in supporting agricultural reforms.
He also mentioned other local leaders, including MP Gitari, describing their involvement in agricultural programmes and local development efforts.
Noma.”
Kindiki further acknowledged multiple political leaders from the region, urging collaboration and unity among them in supporting government programmes.
He also referred to leaders who were absent, noting official duties and encouraging continued coordination between national and county representatives.
Kindiki urged political unity among leaders, calling for consistency and cooperation in local governance and development delivery.
“Eh, wewe ndugu yangu Gachoki, wewe usikuwe confused, sisi ni watu tu—kaa kaa gangari vile Waiguru amekaa gangari, kaa gangari vile Gitari amekaa.”
The Deputy President highlighted improvements in coffee pricing, noting significant increases compared to previous years and attributing gains to government reforms.
Kweli. 2022 kahawa ilikuwa shilingi 50, shilingi 55; leo ni shilingi 110, 120, 130, 140, 150, kaunti zingine zimeanza kupata 160.”
He also noted the expansion of coffee farming across the country, saying more counties are now participating in the cash crop’s production.
“Now we have 35 counties out of 47 which are growing coffee. Very soon coffee is going to be the cash crop of Kenya and Kenya is going to be a coffee country.”
Kindiki praised ongoing government interventions in the coffee sector, including modernization of processing systems and support for cooperatives.
He addressed outstanding debts within the coffee sector, indicating that budgetary allocations were expected to ease financial pressure on farmers and cooperatives.
The Deputy President called on other counties to benchmark against Kirinyaga’s agricultural model to improve productivity and governance systems.
“Kirinyaga is where the other governors should come and benchmark so that we can improve on our production. Ni kweli si kweli? Kweli kweli! Kweli si kweli? Kweli.”
He concluded by referencing constitutional leadership cycles, arguing that national transformation requires more than a single five-year term.
Kindiki added that long-term development planning is essential for completing national programmes across multiple sectors.
“It is not possible for a president to initiate, implement and complete programs that can transform a country in only five years.”
He closed by inviting President William Ruto to address the gathering, reaffirming support for ongoing coffee reforms and broader agricultural transformation.
“Acha sasa tuamke tukaribishe Rais wetu mtukufu William Samoei Ruto.”
