Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has again hit back at political leaders criticising the government, branding their comments as hypocritical and asserting that many lacked meaningful achievements during their own time in office.
Kindiki made the remarks during a rally in Meru County on Sunday, where he responded to opposition figures, accusing them of failing to deliver development when they held similar positions.
Addressing the crowd, the Deputy President challenged critics to look at tangible development indicators rather than engage in what he termed “empty political noise,” pointing to ongoing projects in the region.
“We have projects here in Meru that are being delivered, we are building new facilities, we are constructing a major hospital and market,” Kindiki said, dismissing detractors who he said offered no comparable track record.
The fiery speech follows a series of public engagements where Kindiki has reiterated that the government is focused on development work rather than political posturing, a stance he echoed during a tour of central Kenya earlier this year.
Kindiki has previously urged those critical of government performance to “come and see” the progress firsthand, dismissing purely rhetorical attacks and highlighting the need for measurable results.
In Meru, critics accused security forces of heavy-handedness during a church access dispute involving political allies, a situation that further heightened tensions in the region ahead of Kindiki’s speech.
While the Deputy President’s comments drew applause from supporters present, opposition figures have hit back on social media, accusing the government of ignoring rising living costs and other socio-economic challenges.
Analysts say Kindiki’s assertive defense reflects broader political posturing as key leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 election cycle, with ruling party figures emphasizing performance and critics focusing on perceived shortcomings.
Despite the sharp rhetoric, Kindiki reiterated his commitment to development work, insisting that the government’s focus remains on delivering infrastructure, economic empowerment, and social programmes to benefit Kenyans.
The ongoing exchange between government leaders and critics underscores an increasingly charged political atmosphere, with development delivery and accountability becoming central points of contention in public discourse.
Kindiki also urged political opponents to prioritize constructive engagement over personal attacks, stressing that the people of Kenya expect tangible results from their leaders.
Supporters at the event applauded his message, describing it as a necessary reminder that leadership should be judged on action, not rhetoric.
The Deputy President concluded by calling on all leaders to work collaboratively for the nation’s development, emphasizing that unity and progress should come before political rivalry.
