Senior Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer Daniel Mburu Macharia has been charged in connection with the death of his wife, Florence Nyagah, in Roysambu, Nairobi.
The incident is reported to have taken place at their residence along Lumumba Drive, where the victim’s body was later discovered after she was found unresponsive inside the apartment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Florence Nyagah suffered fatal stab wounds, with police recovering a knife believed to have been used in the attack at the scene.
Macharia, who serves as a senior detective, was later linked to the incident and arrested after surrendering to authorities following a brief period on the run.
He was subsequently arraigned in court on a murder charge, with prosecutors stating that he was the last known person seen with the deceased before her death.
The court was informed that there had been a domestic dispute between the couple shortly before the fatal incident, which investigators are treating as a key line of inquiry.
Authorities also reported that witness statements and forensic evidence, including post-mortem findings and scene analysis, are central to the ongoing investigation.
After his arraignment, the court considered an application for bail and imposed a cash bail of Sh1.5 million.
The court further directed that Macharia must comply with strict conditions, including attendance of all hearings and non-interference with witnesses.
The accused was released from custody upon meeting the bail terms, pending continuation of the murder proceedings.
The prosecution maintains that the case is serious and requires full trial to establish the circumstances surrounding the death of Florence Nyagah.
