Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Salim Mvurya on Tuesday appeared before the Senate Standing Committee on Labor and Social Welfare to provide a detailed brief on the country’s preparedness for the 25th Summer Deaflympics, scheduled for November 2025 in Tokyo, Japan.

During his address, the CS emphasized the urgent need to strengthen and streamline governance for all sports federations.

In a subsequent social media post, he reiterated that this measure is critical to shield athletes from administrative disputes that could hinder the growth and development of talent, a stance the government is firmly committed to.

CS Mvurya confirmed that the athletes selected to represent the country at the Tokyo Deaflympics are already in a training camp.

He further disclosed that the government continues to lend a "listening ear" to concerns raised by federation members.

The CS revealed that he provided the Committee with clear guidance and practical mechanisms to resolve these matters.

The proceedings were held before the Senate Standing Committee on Labor and Social Welfare, chaired by Vice Chair Hon. Crystal Asige.

Those present included Senators Hon. Stewart Madzayo and Hon. Alexander Mundigi, as well as Ag. Director of Sports Jackson Indakwa and other senior government officers.
