Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be his final major international tournament, marking the approaching end of a legendary career that has spanned more than two decades.
Speaking ahead of Portugal’s upcoming fixtures, the 39-year-old captain said: “Definitely, yes … because I will be 41 years old.” Ronaldo noted that while he still feels fit and competitive, the next World Cup will be his last appearance on football’s grandest stage.
The Al Nassr forward clarified that his retirement from professional football will come “soon,” adding: “When I say soon, I mean one or two years. I still feel quick and sharp, and I’m enjoying every moment, especially with the national team.”
If he features in the 2026 edition, it will be Ronaldo’s sixth consecutive World Cup, a historic achievement that underlines his longevity at the top level. Despite his upcoming retirement, Ronaldo remains focused on helping Portugal achieve success in what could be his final international chapter.
