The construction of the Talanta Sports City Stadium in Nairobi is progressing steadily as Kenya prepares to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Uganda and Tanzania. The ultra-modern facility, located at Jamhuri Grounds along Ngong Road, is expected to be one of the flagship venues for the continental tournament.

Supervised by the Ministry of Defence and built by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), the 60,000-seater stadium is designed to meet CAF and FIFA standards. It will feature a football-specific arena without a running track, training pitches, and modern amenities inspired by Kenya’s national emblem. The project forms part of the government’s broader plan to boost sports infrastructure ahead of AFCON 2027.

According to government updates, construction is on schedule, with major structural works such as seating tiers and roofing beams already in place. President William Ruto has reiterated that the stadium remains on course for completion by December 2025, giving ample time for testing and certification before the tournament.

The Talanta Stadium project, estimated to cost about Sh44 billion, is envisioned as the centrepiece of the Talanta Sports City—a hub aimed at nurturing sports talent and hosting major international events. Once complete, it will stand among East Africa’s most advanced sporting venues, reflecting Kenya’s renewed commitment to meeting global sporting standards.

As preparations intensify across the East African co-hosts, the Talanta Stadium remains a symbol of Kenya’s determination to deliver world-class facilities and successfully host the continent’s premier football showpiece in 2027.
